No, I was just as surprised. Although my heart dropped when he threw it on the sand rather than place it :/

That was a pretty gentle throw if you can call it that.
Not much more than a 2' drop into soft beach sand. Still - a +$8500 camera + lens is hard to watch being dropped anywhere onto anything.

Personally, I think Heie's video is a much more believable scenario. A + $1500 setup (+lens) used in the field as a tool vs. a 'casual beach comber dropping what is probably $10k worth of gear into the sand'.
