645D @ Toronto Photo Show

Hi all,

Went to Toronto Photo show last weekend, have a chance to hold the 645D personally and shot several pics (not allow to insert SD card though). Thought I would share with you all:

Now for a not so good size comparison with the K-x:

Me holding the 645D, it is not that big after all!

But it does look big for my girlfriend.

Hope you enjoy.

This is one big camera. Almost the size of the lady's face.

I can just imagine a dim and tunnel viewfinder (wink wink nod nod, tongue in cheek). Looks like a really nice camera, be neat to see if become popular enough to sell in the U.S.

Hi Alex, my gf has a relatively small head... that's why. It is not too big actually.
... and it is really light, much lighter than my k200d. and is very balance. The grip, is more comfortable than k-7 (when I hold the k-7, I thought its grip is very comfortable, but 645d grip is even better than k-7).

Rush, the view finder is large, clear and very bright! I am surprised when I look through it.

btw, all 645D shots are with my k200d and 35mm macro, shot through glass... don't have much time to frame and focus, just try to find an angle that has less reflection from the glass to shot. The size comparison shot is with the 100mm WR that I get to put on my camera to try out that day, and the last two shots are with k-7 that I try out.

The camera is significantly heavier than my K10d but it still handles very comfortably with two hands. The view finder is incredible compared to any 35mm or APS-C camera I've used (no real surprise there...) but I've never handled a Pentax film 645 and can't make a comparison between them. The Pentax Canada reps still can't confirm whether the body is coming to Canada and when I asked they said there is no 645 compatible equipment left in their inventories.

I just noticed that LFLee had a different impression of the 645D's weight compared to his camera. I'd estimate my K10d + lens and accessories at around 1300 grams; if DPReview's numbers can be trusted the 645D with 55mm lens would be somewhere around 1600 grams. I did find the 645 to balance very well with one hand on the grip and the other under the large, flat sides of the body.

Here are my camera-on-a-table shots.
