Pondering a purchase

I'm thinking about dipping my toe back into the MF waters. Can someone point me in the direction of a resource regarding compatibility of components between the Pentax 645, 645N and 645N II?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean by compatibility, but here are a few links:

Comparison between 645, 645N, and 645NII: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-medium-format-slr-camera-reviews/6...tml#post633134

Pentax 645 Medium Format Lenses (compatible fully with each body above): Pentax Lens Review Database - Pentax 645 Medium Format Lenses

The key difference between the three bodies is that the 645 is manual focus, while the other two feature AF. The rest are minor features, which can be seen in the table above. AFAIK they use the same accessories and all.

There are some differences in accessories:

* different focusing screens (645 vs 645N & 645NII),
* electronic release cables (not for the 645, at least not for mine [some people claim that cable switch F which I have for the 645N also works for the 645, so there may be two versions out there as it doesn't for me], while those for the 645N and NII are not identical).

I think that's it, really. So most things are interchangeable: lenses, backs, eyecups, angled viewfinder converter...

Thank you both for the information. I was pretty certain lenses would be usable across the models, but I was concerned about the film inserts, and that's been answered. Good to know about the focusing screens, as I tend to favour grid screens in my cameras.

Looking at that comparison, I'm inclining toward a 645N, if only for the more intuitive control layout.
