I love the 45-85 mm with very sharp optics but I still do not understand the difference in use between the older film camera lenses and the newer digitally correceted lenses ( only 55mm so far) and do we need to adjust the camera setting to lens correction when we use the older film lenses

From what I hear, it has to do with the angle of rays on sensors, which is more critical than it ever was on film.
And how film lenses respond to that depends on each lens—i.e. cannot be predicted. They were not designed for this, but may still perform well. Some do well, even very well (the FA 31mmm limited on a dslr apparently is one), others do not.
I'm still on film (apart from some K-x play with Takumars). I did wonder, seeing 645 A 35mm lenses go up in price, if some are testing the performance of the 645-A 35mm vs the 645FA version on the 645D.
