Love my 35mm and 200mm

I couldn't afford, nor find the 35mm FA, so I "settled" for the manual 35mm. Man, I love this lens. Focus is so smooth and easy. Hyperfocal gives me good depth of field, so the lack of autofocus isn't that important. f/3.5 is not bad at all, as I usually want good depth of field at this focal length.

I went out for some mountain landscapes this weekend, and found myself using 35mm repeatedly, as I really needed the 21mm equivalent. Sometimes, I would have liked a wider angle to catch the mountain cirques, but I'll try merging some panos once the film is scanned.

I have the 55mm (manual), but not the 45mm, but I'm happy with jumping all the way to 35mm. For my landscape use, 35mm might be inadequate on the 645D, as the sensor is a little smaller that 645, I think it's 24mm equiv instead of 21mm. 35mm MANUAL focus prices seem to have gone up from $350-$400 to $600.

200mm FA

On the other end, I use my 200mm a lot to isolate a subject, or to get a good water reflection. My 200mm is FA, and these seem to be relatively available and reasonably priced. The lens sticks out a bit, especially with the hood, but it actually handles very well, and the AF is very rapid. It's definitely lighter than the 80-160mm zoom, which I'm sure I'll end up getting rid of.

I don't find the jump from 75mm to 200mm unreasonable because the usage and circumstances are quite different. In fact, in terms of "normal", I'm equally likely to use 55mm as 75mm. I think on landscape, my usage is: 20% 55mm, 75mm and 200mm, 40% 35mm.

I have the same feeling for the lenses that you do.
35mm to 55mm is very natural. I never change from 55mm to 75mm. I will go all the way to 120mm or 150mm.
So my lens craving habits make me end-up with now two sets of 645 lenses:
Set 1
A35mm, 55mm and 120mm

Set2
A45mm,75mm and 150mm

Coincidentally if you look-up a curve showing focal length versus diagonal FOV or something of the kind, I have noticed that the combinations above present the same difference FOV between the lenses.

Cheers,

Luc
