new to medium format

I am planning on upgrading from my K10D and using it as a backup. I want something more professional so I was thinking of looking into a med format. Do they make digital? What makes them better than the K7? I heard a rumor there was a new one coming out soon. Any suggestions would be great. I do all natural light photography and I am looking for something that's great with low light I know the K7 and Kx are but still interested in med formats

Pentax 645 medium format cameras have a 60x45mm image frame, rather than the standard 36x24 of full-frame 35mm cameras and 24x16 for APS-C DSLRs. There is also the new digital 645 camera, the Pentax 645D, which, unlike its film counterparts, has a 44x33mm cropped sensor.

This doesn't make it worse or anything, as even that sensor has twice the area of a full-frame sensor. The 645D is built with image quality in mind. It's bigger than regular DSLRs, and it isn't as good for action or continuous shooting, but the images that come out of it are sharp and crystal-clear. You can check out the technical specs on the page above.

The other difference, mind you, is the price tag: $10,000 for the 645D body vs less than $1000 for a k-7.

Actually, the 645 Pentax (film version) has a 56mm x 41.5mm frame.

But Pentax 56415 was too much, I suppose?
