U.S. residents who bought a 645D

Are you a U.S. resident who somehow managed to buy a Pentax 645D from overseas, ebay, or in some other way? If so, how did you do it? What chances did you feel you were taking (e.g., lack of full-fledged reviews, lack of warranty, lack of technical support, etc.)? This appears to be the only alternative for U.S. residents for the foreseeable future, and I'm wondering if it can or should be done. Thanks in advance for any advice or summary of your experiences.

Honestly, if they can afford one, then they can afford to go to japan and buy it in person haha

Demoed it at a recent photo show. All the images stayed at the booth but I can tell you, reviewing a photo and zooming in, its like going in there with your eye through the finer of macro lenses. The detail is just phenomenal.

If i was considering buying a 645D id probably go oversea's and look at it in person -- since it costs as much as a car its really not realistic purchase for me.

I was in Japan in June when it came out, and handled it. Truly awesome. My plan is to go to Japan around April of next year (we go once, twice a year to visit), and I think that the price will be close to my target price of about $5,000 for the body by then. Exchange rate is horrible at the moment, so I would hang if I were you.

I have read several times that people outside Japan have used japan exposures | a personal introduction to Japanese photography webstore to have stuff shipped to them and have been satisfied. I haven't used the service myself.

Just remember if you buy it before it's offered in your area you will have to ship it to the country your ordered it from to get repairs.

I live in Australia, but believe the issues are much the same with buying from Japan. I purchased my 645D from Dirk at japanexposures (mentioned above) and had a great experience in terms of the support he gave - fantastic. The actual shipping and customs processes were rather laborious, and it's true that any warranty support would be via Japan, but the camera's results makes it worth it!

Another post indicates the 645D will now be sold in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

US will be added in early December. Ned Bunnell (President of Pentax USA) is expected to make the announcement at PhotoPlus at the end of October. I will be there with bells on.
