Thoughts on 90mm leaf shutter lens

Hi new here, have just picked up a P6x7 but need to get a lens. Probably start with a standard size first and was wondering if anybody had used the L.S revision of the 90mm f2.8 and whether it was much different in quality for the straight 90mm lens

Cheers
Shane

I've used both. I don't recall that there was any real difference between the two optically. The leaf shutter is handy if you want to fill flash outside, but adds a certain bugginess as well.
The 90LS is a bit fragile and can break if operated incorrectly, so make sure if you get one that you read and understand the manual.

Another point to consider is that repair of the 90/2.8 LS is very difficult to find. Pentax Canada, who still services all 645 and 67 equipment, lists the 90/2.8 LS as an item they no longer service.

Like Wheatfield says, the optical quality of the S-M-C Takumar 90mm LS is fine. Nothing you really have to be concerned with. It also has a couple of other features. You can do double exposures with it and you can do pure leaf shutter shooting within its 1/30th - 1/500th range. You put the camera's shutter in a special mode half way between 1/1000 and X-sync, push the shutter button which will lock up the mirror and opens the shutter curtain, attach a cable release to the lens, arm it and shoot. You can read the process in the manual for the lens.

Thanks for the advise. Not sure if I like the fragile bit, I'm pretty rough on gear....

Regards
