LS on 645D

Now that the 645D is in the field, can anyone comment on how the LS lenses work with it? There has been some discussion about this previously in these forums, but I'd like to know how real world experiences are—and whether the flash sync of the lens still works with the digital camera.

Hello Smolk,
I have since a few Days a 645D, it work great with my Takumar 90mm ZV and my
Pentax 4.0 165mm ZV. You must use 1/8 of Second for the Camera Shutter, not faster! Thats all, the Flash fires exactly with the Lens Shutter. Flash equipment is used over the Lens synchro, to made this clear :-). If the Camera Shutter is faster then 1/8, you get blackscreen. I think, this is the time shift for the 67/645 Adaptor, it uses a spring for the lever.
Pictures follow the next days, now im a little busy with work and playing with my new diva :-))

Hi Frank,
Thanks for your experiences! That the 67 lenses work manually is interesting, and implies the 645 ones will too—more or less as expected. Good to know the sync works.

With the 645 LS (or ZV) lenses, the 645 and 645N automatically select 1/8 for the focal plane shutter (and display LS in the viewfinder). I guess the position of the "lonely" metal connection in the lens bayonet is responsible for that: it seems slightly closer to the others with the LS lenses compared to 645-A ones. Whether the 645D recognises the LS lenses as such (selecting 1/8 and displaying LS) remains open.

Everything is about 135/4,0 LS on 645D,
but I think, that 75/2,8 LS will work in the same way.
When you mount lens on 645D - you can see letters "LS" on the camera top screen,
645NII do the same - shows you this letters on the top screen.

1. LR 3.2 or CS5 ACR 6.2 or PhotoMe - cannot understand LS lens clearly,
for example - PhotoMe shows "unknown lens".
All programs cannot show you "135mm" or "75mm" in EXIF, they shows "---".

2. In any case - all programs understand aperture and shows it in EXIF.
3. If you use LS lens as an ordinary lens in Av mode for example (without manual setting of exposure time) - all programs will show you exposure time. Camera will automatically define parameters.
4. If you use LS lens with manual exposure time (1/500, 1/250, 1/125, 1/60) - all programs cannot understand it and will show you "manual" exposure time in EXIF.
But everything works.
5. I have no experience with flashes yet.

You can see LS 135/4 sample photo preview, and EXIF is not deleted:

You can see a lot of fullsizes from Russia, different lenses, and EXIF is not deleted too:

Am I right that you have to manually re-cock the shutter for every frame?

Only if you use the lens's shutter; if you use the focal plane shutter of the camera, you do not need to re-cock it
