remote cable release for 645D?

Hello all: Just joined, and this is my first post. I pre-ordered a 645D, supposedly for Nov 29 delivery to the Pentax Warehouse. What remote elec tronic cable release do I need so I can have it on hand when the camera arrives. Thanks in advance....

Congrats on the purchase. I'm not an owner but I would assume Pentax maintains the same channel as with their DSLRs. Find a Jue Ying remote online. I've paid about $3 each & order one for each bag. The remote will also work on Canon, Nikon, & K-M bodies.

Yes, that sort of thing should work. I'm using the Pentax remote release (part CS-205) on my 645D... couldn't wait to find something cheaper online.

So, Dave, what is this "Pentax Warehouse"? Are you getting the thing direct from Pentax? Or does it have to go from there to your retailer? I ask because I think mine might be in that same shipment.

Hi Tim: I preordered directly from Pentax USA. I gave them a credit card number, which they acknowledged, and thdey said they would charge it at time of shipping. I spoke to them directly, as there was a hitch on my credit card. My company put a "hold" on it as I don't usually charge this big an item. When I called Pentax to straighten it out the woman in customer servicesaid they were due in their warehouse on Nov 29, and they would ship from there. GOOD LUCK!! Happy Thanksgiving.
BTW thanks for the advice to all for a remote..I may get one, but what I was looking for is the cable switch you plug into the camera, similar to the old mechanical cable release.

cable switch CS-205 on the pentax store (and likely at any bigger dealer)
it's a wired remote release you can lock for longer exposures (the electronic version of the old cable releases)
Cable Switch CS-205 - Official PENTAX Imaging Web Site

available at BH photo for 33.95 this week (way cheaper than the Pentax store)

Pentax Cable Switch 205 37248 B&H Photo Video

dont forget to click through from a bh shopping link on the forum

Kind of figured it was I use the old style on my Film cameras and one of these occasionally on my 10D

Cable??

Use the handy-dandy little infrared remote. Works like a charm! (Including for "Bulb" exposures. You can set a custom function such that the fist press opens the shutter and the second on clsoes it. very nice.)

Thanks Eddie - glad you like it. More to come.

Not sure what a Refcon is. I used the IR "D" remote - just recently discontinued.

Nick: did you get a chance to use any legacy manual focus primes? There ha been a lot published on the forums about accurate focusing with medium format digital. I had a 645 and never had any focusing issues, but appparently digital is not so forgiving. I preordered a 645D, and have a number of manual lenses (35, 45, 55, 75, 80~160). Also have 45~85 AF and 200AF.
Thanks for the great reviews on LL. Just re-read them both last night.

Hey, glad you liked the reviews.

I have used a couple - which I very much hoped would be good because I loved the feel of them (and they're cheap).

The short answer is that they seem to work fine, but are surprisingly hard to focus. I will write more on this soon.
