[langtitle=da]Do the repairs or get a 67II instead[/langtitle]

Hi all
As mentioned in my first post I have the older Pentax 6x7 with a dim( in my oppininon) viewfinder. Also as mentioned I have a replacement screen for it but since the camera also needs a new rearcurtain brake Im in two minds. Should I spend my money fixing this old beast or should spend a little more and buy me a 67II? I have seen reports on faulty electronics in the 67II so what Im really asking is whether it will outlast a repaired 6X7 or ....?? offcource sh... can happen and I could get a faulty 67II or my trusty 6X7 could break down for goodbut what are the chances and what do you folks think?
best regards

I guess that would depend on how much it costs to repair the old one.

What does a 67II go for these days? 6x7 bodies seem relatively inexpensive but I don't know how much a CLA would cost.

The repair would be at least half of the price for a used 67II body here in DK
Best regards

you could "change horses", so to speak, only to find yourself in a worse situation (see: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-medium-format-645-6x7-645d/125635-...ion-stops.html ) .

The 67II has a lot more electronics (a lot more to go wrong )

It may well be a case of "better the devil you know"?

Thats exactly my Worries. To spend a lot of money on another camera body only to find its a dog. What are the chances? How good/bad are the 67II compared to the older versions?
Best regards

depends on the condition

I had a pentax 67, and had to repair it twice, for 2-3 hundred each time - the local place I took it to get it fixed closed. I traded it in on a Pentax 67II, and it's worked for me since without having to get it repaired. I like the camera better as well. The viewfinder's brighter, and the exposure meter (AEII) is in general very accurate.

In general I think when buying used equipment the condition is very important, so it's nice to have a chance to inspect it.

I've had my 6x7 for 20 years and have taken up a 14,000 foot mountains, sprayed with sea water on a sailboat, backpacked it on week-long excursions into the wilderness in the wet, winter and more. Still working, in good shape and never been to a repair shop.

The 67II is a newer version. You'll get more features. The focus matte in the 67II is brighter. But you can put one in an older 6x7 (I did) and the prism in the older one has more glass ( and weight) so now is probably brighter than a 67II.

I have an AP6x7 (a very early model, according to the serial number). I have only had it a short time, so ...?

However, I searched the Photo.net medium format forums for AP6x7 and read many pages of threads concerning both the AP6x7 and the 67II. (I suggest you may like to do the same?)

What I found was that there were many threads dealing with issues concerning the 67II, in particular with the film advance, inexplicable lockup, and some of the LCD displays.

I gained the impression that -while some (of each) worked fantastically- others (of each) could be lemons, it wasn't clear cut: take your pick.
