SD card for 645d

Just curious. What is the fastest sd card one can buy for 645d?

I am making my own preparations to purchase a 645D this year and the only cards I will use it in would be from Sandisk, they make their SDHC extreme SD cards with a 45mb/s transfer rate - though with most fast cards you only are really getting about 90% of that transfer rate in typical usage there are always interface overheads, their lifetime warranty is what appeals to me.

Ah, the one I was looking at. Apparently Toshiba has one in the pipeline that runs 60mb/s. Not prime time yet I hear though.. Thank you.

Well buying an expensive card with this camera is a good idea. I think that the 645D is not capable to reach full speed with that UHS-I card, so the max writespeed will be closer to 20-24 MB/s I think.

So, do you think that buying a card that transfers 45mb/s is an overkill? There are ones that runs 30mb/s too.

I am wondering about this myself. I really hope a faster card will help with a faster preview on the 645D. I love the camera but the preview time is so annoying. I always look at my first shots to check the histogram. I hope they release a firmware that speeds this up...or maybe just give us a quick histogram only preview

I am not entirely sure how I ought to feel about this. The thing is a MF camera for crying out loud. Considering the time it takes to develop a role of film, the snail pace of recording does not seem so bad. But, then the camera handles so much like dslr that functionality of it makes me expect to work just like K7, including the recording time. But SD card??? I am not so sure. Why not compact flash?

So, is the limited step the camera? No matter how fast the sd card get, it would not transfer faster than 25mb/s?

That is what I'm thinking. I measured my PQ1 classe 10 card in my K-5 and came up to 18 MB/s writespeed. So a SanDisk is somewhat faster but I still have to see that.

Maybe someone can measure it.

Basicly is it filling the buffer and thus creating more datat to write then the PRIME-II processor can handle and time everything.

Make a burst of 15 pictures and time it until the red light goes out. -> total amount of data is a measurement of processorspeed and datatwritetime.

Make a burst of 25 pictures and time it until the red light goes out. -> the extra amount of data to write in the extra time it takes is just the writespeed (give or take some margin of error).

I can say that my Transcend class 10 cards are no faster than my Sandisk class 6.

It's not the transfer to the card which takes a lot of time (I'm using 20mb/s cards), it's the in-camera processing before transfer begins.

There's a thread in the K-5 forum where people are trying to figure out of the Sandisk Extreme Pro's (45MB/sec) are worth getting over Sandisk Extreme IIIs (30MB/sec).
The answer currently is no...the processing (download time from chip, compression to RAW/JPEG, NR) is limiting you out. If cost is similar, you can buy the Extreme Pros to future proof them a little bit...

p.s., there have been reports that the Transcend Class 10's are slower than the older Class 6's...

But my SDHC Extreme (30 Mb/s) makes really the difference in my K-5. So it will in the 645D.

UHS Speed Class 1 designates performance option designed to support real-time HD video recording, I don't think this is necessary in a 645D...

When you get the cards can you please report to us if the preview images display faster than with other cards you have used. I have the 32G transcend class 10 and it is dog slow on previews

So a SanDisk is somewhat faster but I still have to see that. Maybe someone can measure it.
