645D and P67 lenses?

Has anybody tried Pentax 67 lenses on the 645D yet? I would imagine that at least the best ones would do ok, i.e. 100mm macro, 55mm f4.0 (late), 75mm, 75mm shift and the star lenses.

Looking at prices for used 67 lenses over the last few months, I would guess that a lot of people are using 67 lenses on their 645Ds. The Late 55mm which used to be about $300 on KEH is now nearly $500. Wish I would have bought one a few months ago, I'll just have to suffer with my lowly 45mm and 75mm

Yes. I am using only 67 lenses on the 645D; mainly the two zooms and the 300 EDIF. I have been testing the 135mm macro of late and it looks great as well. There is another thread where this was discussed here:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-medium-format-645-6x7-645d/133836-...ison-645d.html

Lloyd Chambers has done quite a bit of testing of 645 and 67 lenses on the 645D; I highly recommend his site for further reading. Check out what he has done here:

You can also check out Chris Wilson's Blog; he has been using 67 lenses on the 645D for months now: http://travel67.wordpress.com/category/pentax-645d/

The one lens that is missing is a good wide angle. I have the 67 45mm, but it does not hold up well on the 645D. I understand that there is a new 25mm wide angle soon to be available, however.

Thanks! Loads of good info. It seems that the P67 lenses are a very good match with the 645D. Pentax should make a tilt/shift adapter for the lenses too.

Yes of course, from the very beginning of 645D appearance.
Pentax 67 system is older than 645 system, and people have a lot of 67 lenses.

I know that the Pentax 67 system is older, I have several 67 lenses myself. I wanted to hear how well the lenses performed on the new 645D.

Not bad. 67 lenses works on 645D sensor by their center, they use 44x33 mm from their great 70x56 mm potential.
But some of them - performs not excellent. For example: I tried 645 FA 150/2.8

and 67 105/2.4

on 645D as portrait lenses. Both of them are wonderful if we speak about "beauty". But proprietary 645 lens - is better if we speak about "resolution".

67 lenses was not produced with excellent lp/mm characteristics, because they don`t need it on big 70x56 mm film "sensor". Some of them has very good lp/mm by themselves and will be very good on 44x33 mm 645D sensor. Some of them - not.

If you already have wide range of 67 lenses - may be you don`t need to buy 645 analog. But if you choose between them nowadays - it`s better to buy 645 lens.

Hi materialsguy,

please, can you provide sample pictures? Preferably full sized ones I'm especially curious of the 135mm macro and the zooms, as these are not covered by Lloyd.

I was lucky enough to be the first photog, pro or not, to test the 645D in the USA last fall. Initially I tested it with the 55mm/2.8, and also two borrowed 645 lenses, the 33-55mm and the 45-85mm. Superb results, really finely detailed 30x45 test prints. Later I've tested the 645D with my 67 lenses, namely the 35mm Fisheye, 45mm, 55-100mm, 135mm Macro, 200mm, and my 300mm 4.5 ED. After my last tests, I sold both my 67II bodies, the 35mm Fisheye and my beloved 45mm. This is one superfine landscape/travel camera, worth every penny, and will be even more valuable to me with the new 25mm wide optic. I have kept these P67 lenses; the 55-100mm (ex+ IQ), 135mm Macro-early model (ex+ IQ), 200mm F4-late model (ex IQ), and the 300mm 4.5 ED (ex++IQ), plus the 1.4X and 2X TC's. I'll post a blog link late next week with samples from recent shoots. The 645D is a huge hit, and deservedly so. Don't wait, start making technically superior images now. The compositions and esthetic impact are up to your vision.
