I am in the market for a new backpack for my 645d, 35mm A, 45-85mm fa, 120mm fa, 200mm fa, and 300mm F4 fa lenses, I would prefer to stay away from tamrac and lowepro because they say "steal me"
Any suggestions?

I like mountain climbing packs and then I put my photo gear in smaller padded bags in that. It carries the weight better, helps organize the gear, and lets me bring out what I want/need while keeping an bunch of the stuff inside. This also lets you pack lunch and rain gear.

BTW, I use a Mountainsmith Daypack lumbar pack for a 645D with 55mm DFA, A35mm lens, and 67 105mm lens with a padded insert as my goto bag. It can be a shoulder bag and lets me secure it to my back while supporting the load with the waist belt. The bag is about 15 years old and has served me well. It does not scream camera bag either. The nice thing about the insert is I can have a plastic bag around it to weatherproof the contents if needed.

I've found a Patagonia day pack with each lens in its own case to work well. Any day pack would do, it screams "student", nothing in here but books and maybe an iphone.

I usually carry my P645N in a standard, Lowepro computer/camera backpack. The camera and each of the lenses fit easily into the padded compartments; you can carry a computer when you need, it has extra pockets and a rain fly. Fits into the normal overhead or even under the seat.

No sense getting something less concise in the packaging, and I think the "steal me" comment is over-thinking if not over-anxious.

For real hiking, you can do well by getting a large, external-frame day pack. These are cheaper and offer more back support than camera back-packs. Adding the padded insert brings the cost back up, but the ergonomics and technology of an outdoor gear company can't be matched by camera back-pack companies.

I really love my Dakine Sequence! I have had many different backpacks and finally found one I love. And it looks like a normal backpack so no one knows what you have inside. The removable inner block is perfect when you travel. Fill your bag with clothing and carry your camera in a shoulder bag. Arrive at destination, empty backpack and the camerablock back inside. PERFECT!!!

I started with a Kata bag, which is useful when flying as I can use the trolley insert to stick it on top of my main carryon (usually travel BA who are pretty lenient on carry on), but when I am out and about I use a Berghaus 45 litre rucksack with a good adjustable freeflow back system. It also has a chest strap which the kata doesn't which makes it more comfortable on longer trips ( I often walk more than 15 miles on good days so found the kata quite uncomfortable and sweaty on a long day. The Berghaus also comes with a built in cover to keep rain out

What do students typically carry in their backpacks, smelly gym socks and moldy forgotten sandwiches? Maybe them too but they usually carry a laptop, iPad, iPod, iPhone, Tablets and etc, all imminently portable and sought after electronic consumables. Do you think you can afford to be any less vigilant just because you store your camera gear inside a backpack instead of a dedicated camera bag/backpack? Any who thinks this lame attempt at subterfuge is worth anything, is fooling themselves.
