What other format do you bring along for trips??

I am going to Dublin for 8 days from this Saturday.

While wanting to minimize what I bring is important, not taking 645D along is completely out of the question. I plan to take either A 120/2.8 macro or 165/2.8 67, along with DFA 55/2.8.

The question is if I am to bring along my APS-C crap. Should I do that?? Too much to carry??

how much is too much

645D and high quality compact such as canon S90 would be my pick.

I know this isn't an option for many, but I would think a Leica M9 would be a perfect companion to the 645D - similar IQ but substantially smaller form factor - especially with a tiny lens like the Voigtlander MC nokton-M 40mm f/1.4

Well, you want to take the FA77 lens I sold you, of course!

Actually, if you have a wider angle lens like a DA15 that would be good on your K-7 (I think that's what you have).

Or, just get an Olympus XZ-1.

Well, at the moment I do not own a compact, except my auto110 . . . . . .

I actually did think about having a blow out sale of my APS-C, and to buy M9. It is a thought that I cannot get out of my mind though. Yes this is good, I agree.

Well, if I am to bring my K-7, and then i will be tempted to bring along a whole slew of lenses, including 15 and 77. What about my DA*300? 50-135? This will get out of hand . . . .

Besides, that Icelandic volcano is spewing ashes again I hear. I did buy a trip insurance . . . .

My first response would be to just take the 645D. It is a very flexible camera. I would never leave it behind in my hotel room, so it would always be at my finger tips.

The only question would be if you need a wide? Personally, I might just take a few frames with the 55mm and stitch panoramas. Either that, I might take a small camera with one wide. Could you pick up an A35mm or FA35mm? I have a three-lens kit with my 645D--A35mm, DFA55mm, and 67 105mm. My other cameras stay home.

The only other camera I might consider taking that I own is an E-P1 with a 20mm f/1.7. It is a 4:3 format, small, great in very low light, and can record movies. But up to this point, it has not made it into my camera bag.

It really comes down to you and your photography. Are you confident enough with your 645D setup to do good work? Personally, I have no problem traveling with one camera and a normal lens, others need more.

Yes I think you have an excellent point, and this is really the point of discussion for me, I guess. Because of the awesome resolution of the sensor, I actually don't mind cropping a bit for a tele effect. But going wider I need a wider lens.

I have been on a look out for a good copy of A35, as I am more of a manual focus person. I am not sure if I can pick one up before Saturday. Maybe a nice Dubliner/PF member can loan me one while I am there!

I am staying in Dublin for the entire duration of my trip, except I plan to venture out to Portmarnock and play some golf for one day. So, I am thinking that I may get away with not having a wider lens, as I am not going to "climb to the top of the mountain" for a sweeping view.

But yes it makes me want to take my APSC set up just for that reason though.

I now feel pretty comfy with this camera. It was a bit weird for me at first, having never shot in MF. But now I love it, and so much so that I just bought a 67 body with a couple lenses. 105/2.8 67 is an awesome lens, I tell you. But I think 165/2.8 67 is just as fantastic too.

Yes!

I am leaning towards that. I just want to see what it does by itself. We went to southern Oregon coast about a month ago, and at that time I brought my K-7 entourage, along with my 645D, which I mostly shot with for the duration.

Ok that is it. I have decided. Only 645D and 3 lenses (55, 120 macro, and 165 67).

Done.

I have another brilliant idea: Put your 645D in a box and send it to me

Don't know your shooting style, but as some have mentioned, something a little wider would be nice in that rich landscape.

Got back from Ecuador about a month ago. Took a fair bit more than that, although I now would have taken a little less...

Pentax 645N
FA 33-55mm
A 120mm

Hasselblad Xpan with 45mm and 90mm

Nikon D7000
Nikon 10.5mm
Tamron 17-50 f/2.8
Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR
Nikon AF-S 300mm f/2.8
Nikon 1.4X
Pentax 645 - Nikon adapter (for the 120mm)
Nikon SB900

15" macbook pro

accessories

Wish I had taken less as this was 60 plus pounds in a ThinkTank backpack. Problem is I honestly don't know what I would leave behind. I wish I was a minimalist...
