I am renting a car, so why not bring everything??

I know that when I bring my K-5 plus the DA*16-50 and DA*50-135 I have the basics covered and I won't have much regret. It's good to also bring a macro (like the DFA 100 WR) and the DA10-17 FE. Then I don't have to worry about what I left behind - I can just choose whichever primes seem like a good idea.

I was thinking that a small RAW-capable camera might bring similar security - albeit not quite as good as a similar range on the K-7.

Perhaps you should just stick the DA15 on the K-7 and go with it plus your 645D kit.

It all depends on where you are going and what you'll be shooting.

I just got back from Africa. Due to the severe weight limitations on the small planes we flew between safari camps I didn't take my 645D at all. Just my Canon 1DsIII and 1DIV bodies, a 500mm f/4 lens, 1.4 extender, 70-300 L, 70-200 f/2.8 (which I would leave at home if there is a next time) and a 24-70 L.

On the other hand, I'm going to Moab in a couple of weeks and will take the 645D along with all my Pentax lenses and one Canon body with the longer lenses for it just in case any wildlife pops up.

The only compact aps-c worth taking is the sigma dp2 that could be in your pocket with really good picture. Difficult to use but never a problem for a good photographer

Because you need to take it all along if you leave the car behind, as you will, at some point.

I just came back to Dooblin (as dubliners say) from Newcastle, Northern Ireland. Played golf at Royal County Down, where I have dear friend who is a member. Just a terrific weather up there.

Only one pint per day?? Not a chance. :ugh:

I only shoot 67. If there are weight issues I limit the number of bodies, then accessories, then lenses that go along. If it is worth shooting ...

Unless the subject matter requires abilities unique to the Canon the difference between a 1Dslll and a 645D is less than 8.5 ounces so the savings there seem minimal.

Having moved back to Pentax from Canon, I purposely selected the K-5 as a backup for my 645D. The small size and ability to use my 645 primes on it with an adapter, should I desire, make it a logical choice for me. The 16-45 and 55-300, along with the K-5, fit pretty neatly in a backpack with the 645D and a 35, 55, 75.

I also like the similarity in menus and functionality between the two cameras. Big bro/little bro type of thing. YMMV.

After this recent trip to Ireland, I am now seriously thinking about M9. If I sold all my k mount lenses, I think I can raise enough to get a body . . . .
