Originally posted by gkb the D-FA 55mm f/2.8 is fine to shoot wide open, nice and sharp. But has bad distortion. Best would be to have such a Leica Elmar 3,5/65 somewhere already adapted and make a comparison test...
the Leica lens probably won't be much better than the Pentax - it's a very old Lens design. Just because it has the Leica name attached to it doesn't necessarily mean it is going to be perfect. The Leica TRi-Elmar 28-35-50mm f/4 ASPH has some pretty bad distortion, especially at the wide end - and that is a modern lens design.
A pentax 67 lens could possibly be a better choice - since you would be using a small portion of it's large image circle - distortion would be reduced, resolution across the imaging field would also be pretty decent...If you choose to go down this path I would recommend the Pentax 67 55mm f/4 - which is to this present day, sharper than the Carl Zeiss equivalent.
