Questions about 645 functions

I didn't post this in trouble shooting as I didn't know if this new to me 645 is acting normally or not. Please let me know if I need to post elsewhere.

Anyway this is what is going on:

I realize some of the functions of the camera don't work until there is a roll of film in the camera but I don't think this is the problem.

1. No meter in the viewfinder.

2. Pushing the LED button nothing happens.

3. If I push the LED illumination button the LCD to the right of the viewfinder goes blank and doesn't come back until I remove and replace the batteries. turning the camera off then on has no effect.

Is there a way to "trick the camera into thinking it has a roll of film in it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Eric

The back (film or blind) has to be on the camera.

I have the back on but no film in the camera.

The manual says I should be able to actuate the shutter with the back off.

Is this not the case?

I've tried it but nothing happens.

Thanks

ok you are right. May be the notice in the manual I remember is writen to protect the shutter. I just tried it (645N) + Pentax lens + back [without film] and without back. You can fire, and shutter speed, f stop and focus indicator is in display.

The fact that pushing the LCD illuminate button causes my LCD to go away and no LED in the viewfinder make me think there is some sort of electronic fault.

Any way to get to the bottom of this?

Thanks

They all test out at 1.53 or more volts. What should the battery pack output total?

Thanks

I swapped out the ones in the pack and low and behold it made the LED work and the LCD button no longer kills the LCD screen.

but the light meter doesn't seem to work.

I will go over the manual once again and figure it all out.

Thanks

By the way. What are the symptoms of a dead memory battery. ( the one that goes under the screw on cover in the bottom of the camera)?

Thanks

I have a fully functioning 645N with the "check back" (not the insert but the fake back) and it does show diafragma and shutter (645 A 2.8/75mm).
