I once worked with the D3X and loved it. Very fast, very easy to handle. I usually work with the D700 but I also started using the 645D for portraits - resolution and sharpness are just plain stunning with the FA 75mm 2.8 or the 67 100mm Macro lens. The big disadvantage, though, is that the 645D is incredibly slow, its automatic white balance is plain horror and that the preview is not very accurate. Maybe that's the price you pay for the sharpness and detail you get.

I think the same, at least in outdoor photo.
But imho, using only JPeg files with such a camera will never deserve the money you have put in buying it.

??? I shot raw and ACR defaults to the WB settings the camera used to take the picture. I very rarely have to change it. Nothing to do with jpeg.

I use ACR (5.x), too, and I still think, the auto WB sucks. I am talking indoor or flash, however, not outdoor. It's fine outside.

I only shoot RAW. The compression of the JPG the 645D generates sucks, too.

Auto WB always "sucks" indoors or with flash regardless of the camera. Especially if the flash has a strong IR component.

Aw come on! At least give the Nik a chance by using a prime!
The 14-24 from Nikon is possibly (one of?) the best fullframe wide angle lens in existence though, so I think it's sort of fair.

Drop test Here's a possible test scenario.
Don't be silly. 645D is so rugged that it can be dropped from about 18 meters (18,000cm) high and still work properly, if not better. With this in mind, 645D with A* 300/f attached can be thrown with a perfect spiral. If you really stop and think about it, that is quite amazing because some of the K-5s cannot function normally even if they are not dropped and thrown at all.

+1 but here 35mm needs every advantage.

as corollary the task of selecting a better Nikkor prime seems somewhat daunting...

I heard from Thom Hogan that Chuck Norris had a hand in designing the 645D (but only one hand mind you!)

I'm delighted to be in possession of both the 645D as well as the Nikon D3x "Digital Masterpiece" this week, and we'll soon be conducting an in-depth comparison between the two, with a focus on pro features - and which is better for what purposes. We'll also be going over some of the 645D's highlights on the homepage

In the meantime, I'll be happy to entertain any questions about the cameras' features, or perform any user-requested tests in addition to what we have planned. I'm all ears!
when can we expect complete review of both cameras?

We're not reviewing the D3x, but the comparison will be posted in 1-2 months.
