25 mm availability

I was told by pentax there is no way to have this lens delivered to Europe before Spring, I guess he meant 2012. Pentax was unable to tell me where the lenses sold by that seller in Taiwan do come from.

So, I cancelled my order through the official sales channels and ordered it from that seller in Taiwan over ebay.

Well, this is amazing : Pentax France proposed me last 15th of june to join their first despatch of the 25mm in our coutntry, with delivery in september 2011...

Would it mean that they are overburdened by the success of this lens ?

I have one on order at the Pentax USA web store. When I called last week, they told they expected some units Sept 6.
I also priced one at White Rabbit Express - Japan's top personal buying service and was quoted 387,500 yen if wired to Japan or US$5,187.74 if wired to their bank in the U.S. They would buy it from either Amazon.jp or Yodobashi Camera. Both have the lens in stock, so delivery would be one week.
I'm leaving for a two-week trip, so I'll wait and see if Pentax USA delivers. If not, I may buy one from either Japan or Taiwan (meanwhile I'll have to continue stitching verticals fro the 35mm)
Question to those who bought in Taiwan (or Japan): did you have to pay customs duties on arrival and how much? I will have to pay 8.75% CA sales tax to the Pentax web store, so I need to factor all the costs in the comparison.

Hi all. Seems Spring 2012 is also the case for me. I just received a phone call from my retailer that the lens ETA is now April 2012 (this is in North America). Crum.

I did not end up having to pay any custom fees. Upon receiving the lens, I did notice that the ebay seller from Taiwan listed the value of the lens significantly less than the purchase price, presumably to avoid said fees.

This wasn't disclosed in advance, and presumably involves some level of risk. Although that risk may still be less than your state's sales tax. Good luck with acquiring this lens!

Thanks lnorton, I've been informed by Pentax this morning that they were canceling my order, saying the availability problem was a result of the tsunami. They are now talking about March 2012. I'll see if they are still available in Taiwan or Japan when I return home.

I ordered mine from that ebay seller in Taiwan as well, last week. I was told they do first have to order it from their supplier, so I do have to expect a delivery time from 2-4 weeks. I had not to wait so long, the lens arrived today!

My first test shots are under Pentax DFA645 25/4 Photo Gallery by Dominique Schreckling at pbase.com

Since it's approaching Spring, I recently asked my retailer if they see the 25mm on the horizon. The response was vague and non conclusive, but indicated that Pentax may have discontinued the lens last fall. Disturbing. Anyone else have any news on what's up with this lens ?

It is listed as new in the current catalog in Japan. I doubt your dealer knows what he is talking about.

I've been told by Ffordes in the UK (very good retailer from whom I have bought several used lenses and a 645N) that the 25mm will be available in UK from April. So your dealer is talking from the proverbial I suspect.

On B&H the estimated arrival date is May 15, they are accepting pre-orders for it now.

Mind you the Uk price is to be around £3800 = $5900. As usual we in the UK have to pay more for it!

Ffordes actually show it today on their website as 'just in'. It's listed at the very bottom of the Pentax 645 lens section because it's been code starting with DFA instead of 25mm.
