6x7 mirror mechanism - what is this - mold?

Hello, I'm new here.

Background information:
I recently got a Pentax 6x7 (the first version I believe, S/N 4010729) which had a quite musty smell from being stored in a closed box in damp conditions. I cleaned most of the easy to reach places with alcohol and hydrogen peroxide and aired it out for a day. The smell has mostly vanished, but it still noticeable, particularly by opening up the back or front and sticking my nose in.

This is on the felt/fuzz on the mirror mechanism of the 6x7:

Is this mold/fungus? I realize it is hard to tell from the picture Anyone seen this sort of thing before? Should I be concerned? Thanks for any advice.

EDIT: fixed white-balance of pics.

Is this the colour out of the camera, or is it a sepia conversion?. Natural colour would help identify the problem.

Sorry. It was bad lighting. I fixed the white balance.

Looks like foam rubber that has "melted" of age and then just caught every little dust particle around. Probably nothing to worry about. Maybe you should try to clean it off, but it must have had some function. Possibly just for "filling out" those arms of pressed steel sheet.

I agree, I don't think it is too much to worry about but carefully give it a good clean, and it should be fine.

The rotating arm mirror mechanism is usually cloth covered as it practically rubs the mirror with each exposure. Looks like yours is deteriorated. A CLA should be done to it, especially due to its age and condition from what you described.

My 67 has a cloth covering on these moving parts, but the older 6x7 units may have had foam pads. These look like deteriated foam pads.

I just checked, mine looks pretty much the same except without the white spots. It's just dust I'd say.
