10 000 units of 645D? Let's check our serial numbers!

From time to time, I use little free program named "PhotoMe" to check the real shutter count of my cameras. This figure is situated in chapter named "Manufacturer notes". And in this chapter you can also find "Manufacture date" and "Internal serial number" of your cameras.

It was interesting for me - to find such data from public files (different reviews of Pentax 645D, with samples). Unfortunately, Jpeg do not contains needed data after processing in converters. But DNG, PEF and Jpeg directly from camera - gives all the information. Here you are some sequence:

Serial number - Date of manufacturing

7451 / 29-Jan-2011
7355 / 31-Jan-2011
7138 / 18-Jan-2011
5272 / 5-Jan-2011
3925 / 13-Sep-2010
4058 / 30-Aug-2010
3241 / 29-July-2010
2977 / 30-July-2010
2802 / 9-June-2010
2866 / 31-May-2010
1700 / 26-May-2010
1904 / 25-May-2010
1459 / 7-Apr-2010
1451 / 7-Apr-2010
846 / 7-Apr-2010

Who has "lucky jubilee" 10 000 serial number?
When it was made by Pentax? When it was bought by end user?
Let's check our figures!

Well there are some gaps in the numbers. So I don't think that between 5 januari and 18 januari there where 1866 units produced.

Somewhere in the beginning was stated that Pentax had a coontract with Kodak to buy between 300 and 500 sensor's a month.

So I guess that there are starting in april 2010 and end of august 2011 between 5.100 and 8.500 units out in the field. Unless somethings have changed in production.

Thank you!

I've downloaded samples from Japan official site:
645D PENTAX JAPAN

All the photos - are Jpeg's directly from camera, and contains necessary numbers.
Pictures from 25/4 lens were taken later, on the camera number 2469 / 26-May-2010.
Earlier pictures were taken on the cameras 756 / 27-Jan-2010 and 768 / 22-Jan-2010.
O-oh! January 2010, not March 2010, when officially announcement of 645D was happened !

I think so too.

And I've found camera number 10078 / 27-May-2011
It was sold in USA few weeks ago.
If we are not mistaken with this idea,
it means that Pentax 645D is the most popular medium format camera.

So on the bodies alone that's 10,000+ x $10,000 = over $100,000,000 before expenses.

well when the numbers are just plain right then production went up to at least 600 units a month and then 645D body 10.000 is in reach or allready sold.
