In the internet era, people tend to short things like AFK, ic. 7002 cannot be shorten but 7k2 is still shorter than 7200 or 7.2k. Some people may not accept it because it is not in any serious paper. This is for chatting and for fun only.

In Electronics 8k5 means 8500

As in 'pass me that 8k5 resistor please '. There is no such thing as a 8005 ohm resistor. (well not in common use anyway, maybe in strict scientific circles)

Maybe it's my lack of an EE degree that causes me to be confused by this.
