Have just picked up a Pentax 645 300/4A*...large, heavy blunderbuss of a lens...need some way of mounting on a tripod...did Pentax (or anybody else) produce a tripod collar for this lens?

A long time ago-20- years or so-Really Right Stuff custom made one but I've never seen one for sale. Your best bet might be the Manfrotto telephoto lens support. On theother hand, other people have tested this on a tripod and despite all of it's awkwardness, it does not show the effect of camera shake much at all, even at the difficult speeds of 1/8 to 1/30.

If there is a section of the lens body with room to clamp on to you may be able to measure it and find a clone of a Canon tripod collar with the right dimensions.

An actual Canon collar could also be an option at ten times the price.

A perfect fit is the Manfrotto 293 telephoto lens support. I have a double quick release plate, so I can use it easily in horizontal and vertical mode. Really supports the lens well, and it fits (I have both the lens and the Manfrotto).
