645 is here!! Any decent eyecup options?

Well it arrived at my job at 3 pm!! I had about 4 minutes of free time for each part that I ran on the CNC lathe(I'm a machinist), so I got to read the manual before I got home. But the large eyecup is flat! I don't like it at all-does not block out light from the sides. Are there any 3rd party eyecup options? I ordered 2 extra from KEH and now have 3 eyecups that suck. And this body has the UE-20 plain matte focus screen-bummer. No split circle image that I miss that my 35mm MF bodies had. But it is much easier to focus-645 has larger and brighter viewfinder than my DSLR or even 35mm cameras I've had. I could live without the split image screen for awhile. But those flat eyecups-they gotta go!!

I cut away the rubber and took the eyepiece apart. I can make a tiny metal ring at work to glue to the metal threaded part. That would allow a Nikon DK-2 eyecup to slip on and fit tight. If it works out well I'll make a few and sell them.

Does anyone know if this will fit on the 645, 645N, or 645NII?

I started a thread on this some months ago due to the same complaint as the OP and the Nikon DK-2 was mentioned. Pity there is some DIY fixing required which may not be available to all.

I have the P645N. It seems from Zygonyx as if Pentax has recognised the flaw in the large flat eyecup but this looks to be the 645D camera. Hopefully the new enclosed eyepiece fits the analogue 645 but I won't hold my breath. Once something is out of production, it seems that makers lose interest but if it does fit then where might the new one be obtainable?

I am U.K based

I emailed Pentax and asked if the 645d eyecup will fit on the 645 or 645n.

Thanks for that. Price and stockists( especially in the U.K.) would be helpful as well

Pentax answered my question about the 645 eyecup with the following:

Thank you for contacting Pentax.

If you have the small eyecup for your 645 camera you should be able to attach the large eyecup from the 645D to that smaller eyecup. However, the large eyecup for the 645D is not available to purchase separately in the US.

If you are in need of further assistance, please respond to this email or call our technical support center at 800-877-0155.
