Low battery P645 :(

Here's a "feature" of the plain 645: there's no battery power indicator. Seems you know your AA's are running low when the film transport starts to malfunction.

Guess what happened to me this morning.

Here I was: brand spankin' new *awesome* A 55mm lens from Hinman mounted, I drive an extra 20 minutes out of my way to get to a meadow, snow covered, fall foliaged, mist rising, sun rising... and kerplunk. Film stops advancing.

At work I waste the roll opening the back to see if there's anything amiss. I believe it's the batteries finally going low.

Bah.

Which model of 645 started to include a battery indicator?

I don't have my 645N with me right now, but I don't think it does either. I think the screen just shows ASA and film counter.

The manual says, ‘For battery check, confirm the motor drive function which is affected earlier than that of LCD display’. Which appears to say, if your camera does not wind onto the next frame, they're down. There is also a warning about cold weather: ‘performance tends to deteriorate at temperatures near freezing point. Performance is restored as soon as batteries are brought back to room temperature’.
The 645N has a battery symbol in the viewfinder.

Always carry extra batteries...regardless of the camera.
