Top LCD light on the 645D

I've had the 645D for a year, great camera but my top lcd light button has never worked. I don't need it, so no issue. I recently saw a used 645D for sale and the seller says his light has never worked as well. How common is this problem?

No problems and I like the illuminator very much.

Might be a menu setting you inadvertently changed upon setup? It can be toggled to turn on or off via certain buttons on the K-5.

RTFM !!!

Switch custom-menue 5, point 34 back to 1.
The light-bottom should work now.

Thanks Linus.

BTW, I did RTFM; it's not crystal clear that the "off" setting enables the lcd light, or for that matter that the other options disable the light.

Yes it is, that's why I said thanks. I can't imagine how you knew this.

I had this issue, called Pentax and the tech told me that there was no software switch or custom setting that affects the LCD. My friend Antonio in Caracas sent me a note with the instructions that Linus posted and of course, it works. The frustration here is that the Pentax tech didn't know what he was talking about.

Always thought the light only works when it's really dark
I had the same problem in soft light conditions - the LCD light never worked. I did not change anything in the menue but when I was out there shooting in almost complete darkness: it suddenly worked. Strange, what?
