6x7 1.4X Converter Fit Issues

I knew that the 1.4X converter would not fit on several lenses but I was surprised that it would not fit on my 150 Takumar. I had an idea to use a #1 extension tube behind the lens, then attach the converter. With lens stopped down all the way, I figured this setup might be able to be used for landscapes since the focus would not be at infinity and the small stop might be able to cover the DOF. Or does this tube make the focus too close for the small stop to compensate? Anyone ever try this?
