stevebrot, thanks for the reply!

In the OP's case it was probably oxidized lubricant (or similar) slowing the leading curtain near the end of its travel.
I suppose the lubricant could oxidize even in almost new camera if it have not been used for long time (a decade or so) as it probably was in my case. I only hope it's the type of repair any regular qualified photo service technician could perform relatively easy. I don't have an option of sending my camera to Eric as I'm not in the US.

Time is the enemy of all things made. As for service options, the service center for Pentax in Russia may be able to help you.

I have just read this thread as I have a P645N also and had failed to notice that it was many years old. I even made a contribution myself . If the OP did find a solution it is always a pity when he/she doesn't come back with what the solution was as it may help others who run into the same issue.

Personally, I ran another roll through it just to see what would happen and everything worked perfect again! I'm going to keep using it and see what happens. One thing I did different that trip is I was always using the strap hung off my backpack, and at home I never use the strap at all. I wonder if that could have pulled in the body in some way to make a light leak or cause a mechanical problem. I also switched out the batteries for fresh ones just incase.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Solved

I've figured this problem out.

It’s not the shutter, it's a light leak where the back meets the body.

Light gets thru the gap and shines on the most recently shot frame, which is partially rolled up onto the top reel. The line is a shadow cast by the reel. See this diagram.

SOLUTION: New seals, or a new back, or black electrical tape to seal up your leaky gaps.

I just replaced the foam on one of my 645 backs. Found a seller on eBay that has precut kits that are very cheap.

I am experiencing the same lines on my 645n negatives, only running perpendicular to the OP. E.g. they run side to side in portrait orientation.

Update: My problem was in processing, not in camera.

Same

I had one back that gave me lines and I also bought the pre-cut foam from an eBay seller. No more leaks.
