It's impossible to say at the moment as to whether Pentax will stay with the cropped sensor for the 645D or eventually go to full frame. I don't think you can say one way or another simply by whether they rename lenses such as the D-FA 55mm to DA 55mm. Reason being is that this lens like others has already been designed for full frame 645 and can be used in its present form for the cropped sensor 645D or film 645. The same may hold true for the upcoming 90mm. If it works with full frame 645 film and current 645D, it will be named a D-FA lens. That doesn't mean Pentax will eventually go to full frame 645D (digital).

I think the 25mm lens for the moment is a unique case. If the original version performed well with little issues like excessive CA on the 645D, then I doubt we would have seen a redesign and renaming to a DA lens...since like all other 645 lenses, it was designed to work with full frame 645. It's only because of Pentax feeling that for a $5000, it should perform better on the current 645D, that changes were made which resulted in it being unsuitable for full frame 645 digital. If and when Pentax does decide to go full frame 645D, I think they will cross the bridge when they come to it, regarding suitability of the full frame version of the 25mm lens.

If we use Pentax's 35mm nomenclature for naming lenses....Pentax has a mix of DA and DFA lenses yet there has never been a full frame 35mm DSLR from them.....yet!

I wonder if Pentax even knows for sure!

But one thing is certain--Pentax will know before we can guess...

Guess simply put, if a Pentax AF lens will cover the entire full frame for a given format (regardless when the lens was introduced), it will be refered to as a FA or D-FA lens, Conversely if the lens only is suitable for a cropped sensor, it will be referee to as a DA lens.

In the 35mm format, there are a few "DA" lenses references that actually cover correctly the 24x36mm sensor.
So indeed, the sole lens denomination is not a "format killer" factor by pentax's standards.
But the reason regarding the new 645 DA 25mm lens sounds rather like a cost-cutting one... and one can worry a bit about the future of FF 645 sensor as far as this economic parameter is concerned...

Changing a model is far more expensive then keeping one in production. Retooling a production line is far from insignificant and the cost does not stop there. This is not saving Pentax money.

I just purchased this lens last Friday and will try to post the first two test images here. If I fail (technically challenged) then they may be viewed on my Flickr: Aeros4's Photostream. The shots are RAW and PP in CS5 with manual lens correction. Shot at ISO 200F22. Well I tried, just use the link. Cheers.
Just for translation...

Thanks Yamanobori I got a lot of code showing in my message as you know. I could not do that intentionally if I tried.
