That's correct but many people don't get the point/don't read the disclaimer and don't have a good BS filter.

I can see how people get confused; sometimes he says something 100% true in one sentence and in the next he's somewhere between mocking/wrong.

I read his site often and get some level of entertainment out of it, but I think it's bad (if) so many (certain) people read it.

"I welcome the day when Kyocera comes back from out of nowhere and astonishes us with the Contax G3 Digital full-frame camera. My LEICA M9 would hit the big blue donations bin at Goodwill so fast that it would be deafening."
There are times where I may be very mildly amused, but there's no chance of Rockwell cracking me up.

There's lots of great American humour (yes, it has another U), but I wonder how unfunny people like Ken Rockwell can be considered that funny. Sorry!

Not aware if he is or was.

However, this isn't the first time the subject of the 645D has come up.

Not just the 645D, here's Ken's nonsense about the Sony RX100 when it was released. Interestingly I had to fetch this from google cache as he's revised it since.

Sony RX100

Everybody is asking about the Sony RX100 small-sensored point-and shoot, and it's no big deal. Sony is very deceptive about its sensor size; it's not much bigger than other compacts and nowhere near the size of a DSLR or even micro 4/3 sensor.

The RX100 sensor is only 8.8 x 13.2mm (15.8mm diagonal or only about a half-inch), or a 2.7x crop factor from full-frame 24x36mm (43mm diagonal). In other words, this RX100 sensor has less than one-seventh the area of full-frame.

Pop Photo magazine just tested the RX100 (page 80, Sept 2012 issue), and high ISO performance is horrible, with only an ISO 400 maximum acceptable speed. Forget it if you were mislead into thinking the RX100 has a DSLR sensor, it's just a little sensor with a big marketing campaign behind it.

The line between DSLR sensors and point-and-shoot sensors is drawn at a 2x crop factor, which is micro 4/3. Smaller sensors like the RX100 are just tiny sensors, and bigger are DSLR grade.

Personally, I own and shoot the Fuji X100 with a 15.8 x 23.6mm (28.4mm diagonal) sensor with only a 1.5x crop factor. For me, Sony is all about audio; I just bought a set of MDR-V6 headphones on sale at Amazon for $68 yesterday, for instance.

If you want a posh point and shoot for $650 with a small sensor, get the Fuji X10 for $100 less with far better mechanics, much faster zooming and handling and a faster lens (Sony markets as "f/1.8," but the RX100 lens is only f/4.9 at the long end):
As of October he is still claiming this

The Canon S100 IS is the best pocket digital camera ever made. It has a super-fast f/2 lens, for nice, clean images in any light.

The S100 also has direct-control dials which let you adjust it for perfect photos every time. These dials are much easier and faster than the menus of other cameras.

The S100 makes much better, sharper video than a DSLR, and has a built-in dual microphone system for full wrap-around s-t-e-r-e-o sound!

The S100 fits in a pocket and has unbeaten image quality for a compact.

I love the S100's $30 PSC-900 deluxe leather holster case. My belt slips through it, and then the case holds the S100 on my waist. It's very well made and a custom fit for the S100, with a magnetic catch. It's designed so it's fast and easy to get the camera in and out from the top.

I find that amazing as at one time all he needed was a D-40 with 18-200 VR, and he could conquer the world - without "fiddling" with RAW :-)

I've never read another thing from him...

Yeah, it's quite good... I suppose growing up in England has set the bar quite high when it comes to enjoying sarcastic piss-take!

Guys, you can't take Ken Rockwell's writing's on his website too seriously. He has been around for many years and handled/used many many camera equipment throughout those years. But his views are in no way shape or form objective or based on any testing remotely approaching science. So it's best just to read and be humored. At best one can extract some good info sometimes if you read between the lines.
