Pentax 645 25mm D FA vs. DA

Has anyone had the chance to do a comparison (or found one that someone else has done) on the new 25mm lens for 645D with the DA vs. D FA versions?

All the rumors seem to point to these two lenses being identical optically, just the DA has the longer hood (making it vignette in full frame). Are there any statements from Pentax or tests to verify this?

I'm looking at purchasing the D FA version used (mostly to save a good deal on the price).

Theoretically, wouldn't it be easier to create a filter holder and use graduated neutral density filters on the D FA version and avoid vignetting, since the lens hood doesn't stick out quite so far?

I imagine the purpose of the longer hood was to minimize flare and maybe CA's?

Any input on this matter is greatly appreciated!

I read that the DA version has a different optical design which results in a smaller image circle corresponding to the cropped 645D sensor. The aim is to lower cost compared to the the DFA version which covers the full 645 sized negative. So your options are a future-proof DFA or a cheaper DA. How much cheaper the DA option retails for I am not sure about.

Ayoh, actually, the retail is exactly the same on both...$5000. Though, one can find the D FA version for less used, which is what I'm considering right now.

I'm just trying to find out if there is actually a difference in the optics, or if it's just a different built in lens hood.

I doubt there would be any significant optical difference, image circle appart.
But the comparison would be interesting...
I preferred the DFA version because of 15,5mm equivalent on film 645N.

From the specs, the DA is 30 g lighter than the D FA and yet it has a larger hood, so there is less of something else in the DA version.

I really hope that the CA issue is resolved in the new version (regardless of the hood - I mean that it handles the issue better even if light of the wrong kind does strike the lens). With a lens of this price, it is something we should expect as an absolute requirement.

Re. flare, i have not come accross any visible even in harsh conditions yet, with the D-FA version, so i doubt something can be improved.
Re. CA, it has to be checked as it is indeed a bit frustrating albeit correctible in the first version.
