These guys are crazy!

Mamiya DM-56 DM Series Digital Back 322-056 B&H Photo Video

Why would you spend $26,000 for a dig back when you could buy 2-1/2 Pentax 645's?

I was hoping Pentax would make digital backs for the 645N @ maybe $3,000. But $26,000...that is crazy!!

I guess it's got more MP and a bigger sensor...but MUCH more expensive! I bet it's not as easy to work with as the 645D also.

the main interest of back like this, is that you can mount them on older camera, and not only the one that are sold now.

Maybe people who buy them have a collection of very nice, excellent quality glass and want to continue using them instead of switching systems.

At that level, I doubt you buy, probably lease instead.

Have you seen the PhaseOne stuff? Up to 80MP. Much of this stuff is for institutions, not individual pros...

It is a bigger sensor. It has a higher resolution. Why are you surprised at the cost?

I don't think you are ever going to get a MFDB for $3000, except maybe used. And not a very good one.

If you have $3K, then the D800 is your best choice.

Really? I would check out the GetDPI and Luminous Landscape forums. There are individuals that use them there. But not all are pros...

BTW, Hasselblad has a 200MP camera that uses pixel shifting technology.

Don't know?

Mamaya has a 6 x 7 dig 80mp for $35,000. (I think??) Just glossed over it and did not pay much attention after I saw the price. Is that the phase one cam?

Luminous wouldn't let me in!

These mp's are all too big for me anyway. Hassy is always leading the field it seems.

PhaseOne has a trade-in program for the backs, then they sell the used ones -- for $15K & up...
