What flipping planet are you on. It's covered by warranty and the Pentax 645D is automatically in the pro service program. I would guess at least 60-70% of 645D are being used by pros
All cameras have problems brand is not a determinant for this. 45000 hassy's can have issues

i don't think warranty's are transferable..
Warranty comes to the camera and not the buyer so it is transferable. At least in Finland and here the Pentax warranty is 24 months. Had a small chat with my local Hasselblad dealer and he thought that the problem is not the sensor itself but the software that converts it to an image. But who knows...

Here are some good news for all Pentax 645D users. If you have problems with red or green lines on your pictures don't (!) send your camera in for a repair. Just do a simple pixel mapping (menu 4 in the third settings column) and your problem will be solved.

Here is how it is done:

First take a shot of a dark area at ISO 1600. Then do the pixel mapping right after it.
Take another shot of the same area at the same settings. Now compare the first shot with your second one. You shouldn't see any lines anymore.

I have the same problem on 1600 ISO with my copy of 645d. The line in my case is blue and occurs on the right side. I will try with pixel mapping, but if this doesn't help I will return the camera (one month old).

Just a little update on my previous post: - a blue line is visible on ISO 100 as well. It's much harder to find it on ISO 100 than on ISO 1600 but it's there. The line is most visible on dark tones and on ISO 1600 the line goes from 4/5 under the top straight to the bottom of image. I will definitely return my camera and ask to fix it. The shutter counter has 444 actuations. I tried with pixel mapping but nothing happend, the blue line is still there.

This isn't just a line but rather large regions of banding, so pixel mapping will doing nothing for this. I think unfortunately you've got a bad sensor and will need to send it back for replacement.

Did you say , "caps on the lens"? All 645D cameras when underexposed by about 4 whole stops will give the split sensor problem. In the dark , the processor is just guessing about what to do and the two halves dont agree . The pixel line is another problem altogether, one I havent dealt with.

@672: The split sensor problem also occurs on a real image (the attached image here is only a test image, with caps on its lens). The difference on a real image is not that obvious (I have to look very carefuly) but it is there. Also, at first I thought there was only one pixel line but there were actually 2 lines, one line on each half of the image (red on the left side and blue on the right side).

Definitely sounds like a bad sensor to me.
