Pentax 67 55mm F4, strange noise when shaken

I've got the latest version of the P67 55mm F4, if I lightly shake the lens, I can hear a noise as if there is something loose, like a spring. It makes no difference at what point the lens focus is extended, aperture setting, or the man-auto switch set to. The aperture mechanism is snappy when released. Nothing visibly wrong viewing the blades opening and shutting down. On the camera the lens functions as it should, and it has never been dropped.

I've tried the same with my 105mm f2.4, and there is just a faint clicking noise.

Has anyone experienced this issue with theirs, or any other Pentax 67 lens?

Common noise is the lever/armature inside that is utilized when you switch to the "MAN" mode on the lens. It allows a small pin switch in the middle of the release pin to activate the TTL-Prism meter's stopdown meter mode.

You can see it when you look at the lens mount were there is square hole and operate the "AUTO/MAN" lever. Try to rule it out as the source... put the lens in MANual mode and use a ballpoint pen tip (not a pencil) to pull a little pressure on it to keep it from moving. The noise should go away.

Otherwise, it is possible that one of the screws for the lever had come loose or one of the screws for the focus also might have come loose.

It is probably normal.

I've given the above a go, but it does not make any difference. Quite sure it's not a loose screw. It sounds like something moving back and forward making the same sliding noise.

So to clarify... the square hole does have a pin or tab that is operated by the AUTO/MAN lever and so it is in good shape?

If yes, then the only other loose bits that could be aperture assembly and the operating shaft for it. You said everything is working and so it could be the metal dust trap or the inner plate the aperture blades are sandwiched between?

Yes, the AUTO/MAN lever clicks into place as it should, and the pin that rises in the square hole is not loose. It must be something around the aperture blades, thats where the noise seems to come from. The lens works fine, so I'm not going to take it apart to investigate the noise.
Interesting to find out if it's a common issue with this lens.

I will say that all of my 6X7 lenses have some sound or another.
You are right... if not broken, don't fix it.
