Welcome to the forum. As noted above, the 645 does not support separate backs. Instead, film is loaded using a removable insert that can be easily loaded in advance. They cannot, however, be hot-swapped, mid-roll.

There are film magazines for 120, 220, 70mm and Polaroid film for the Pentax 645 cameras. I'm not aware of any sort of 35mm magazine like you can find for Mamiya, et. al.

I think doing that would basically turn the 645 into a very big and heavy ME Super. The whole point is the 645 format is the big image size, loading 135 film in that body takes away all advantages and leaves the weight and bulk behind. I'm sure there is a list of engineering reasons why such a mod has not been tried.

Or just cut the middle out of your 120 film so it fits your enlarger. (just kidding, don't try this at home.)

In theory you could make one from a 220 insert, but you are going to have to do a whole lot of work, inc making a new plate with film rails to support the film at the proper point in space. Plus a new pressure plate with film sensor contacts to tell the body you have film in it. This is ignoring the problem of rewinding the film back into a cart. Much easier and likely cheaper to buy the 645 to 35mm camera lens adapter and a matching film body.

The 6x4.5 is small for medium format. And there is a reason to shoot 35mm film in a medium format camera. Wide panoramic aspect.

Not strictly relevant to the OP's question, Steve but if you were carrying a changing bag and an insert cover, it would be possible to withdraw the insert without fogging, wouldn't it? However the real issue would presumably be that on its replacement into the camera, the camera would assume that it was a new film and wind it forward as it does with a new film so you'd lose a number of frames.

That presumably only leaves as a potential solution, the removal of the insert in the changing bag and while still in the bag manual rewinding of the film back to the beginning then reloading as if it were a new film and remembering to wind forward to say one frame beyond the frame you last shot.

A lot of trouble but at least it's a way of doing it or have I missed something that prevents this working?

Thanks
