Any 645D news at CP+ ?

If any of the forum members are at the show, could someone find out what is happening to Pentax's 645D product line ? It's been pretty quiet and not much has been shown in terms of the 90mm 2.8 lens as far as image samples go. As an owner of the system it would be good to know what some of the plans are and if it's worth buying more lenses for a system that Pentax might abandon. Considering it's one of the more unique products in Pentax's lineup I'm surprised at the lack of marketing and exposure the camera has been getting overall.

They're definitely not going to abandon the system, but the body is certainly due for an update. We will be asking Pentax about it at our interview on Feb 3rd.

Thank you. I remember you did not have much time to ask them about the system at photokina, but if you could drill them about it some more it would be great. I was hoping for a body update because I want one as a backup for a big trip, don't really want to get another body of the current generation if it's due for an update. Taking a whole other system (D800e) entails taking another set of lenses which adds to a lot of weight when traveling.

Update?

I think we are the only ones who think it is due for update.......Pentax previously called the 645D "a gift for legacy lens owners".........As I've said before on this forum, I waited from 2004 rumors, until December 2010 to get my $10000 "gift", i dont expect any updates until 2016.....sadly

Also, Larkis. Dont know if you saw that last week a Leica S2 with 500 accuations sold for $9999.00 on ebay . That system accepts all Pentax 67 glass .

The Leica system is 3:2 aspect ratio, this is one of the main reasons I'm on the 645D and not the Leica.

The gift comment was under Hoya, things have changed. I don't see any advantage to using Pentax lenses on the S2 over the 645D. Like Larkis, I prefer the 4:3 ratio and the only comparsion of sensors in the S2 and 645D I've seen is on Lloyd Chamber's site and he had a preference for the 645D's sensor.

4:3

Yes, I have grown to like 4:3 quite a bit myself. And like others here I would very much like some 645D updates. Top of the list would be a sensor cut from one wafer and a proccessor to handle that file, I find that this camera has limited dynamic range due to its inability to handle four stops under without sensor split. While I am committed to it and have lots of lenses and great captures with it, I cannot recommend it to others, in its current fairly unstable state.

I would also like a compact 40mm f2.4 manual focus lens.

example

this camera should be able to handle this scene. i am on my second body with this problem. its occurs randomly and in about 1 in 500 shots. not good enough for me to recommend the camera to others.

I can see why you find that disturbing. How common is this problem? I have yet to see this on my 645D and I've got about 10,000 exposures by now

ogl posted today that a japanese camera magazine had a timetable of new releases for camera manufacturers (This was the informed (???) guess of the magazine's staff) which had a 645D II in June 2013 and a K-3 and K-3s in April 2013.

Regards
