I was wondering if anyone else feels that the noise made during "shake reduction" is fairly loud?
When I tested the lens I didn't notice anything unusual. One thing I have noticed that the berlebach wood tripods I use amplify camera noise, so IS/VR mechanisms appear much noisier than they actually are. I have extensive experience with Canon IS and Nikon VR lenses - I had an early version of the Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VR lens that was particularly noisy - I also had a Canon EF300mm f/2.8L IS that was noisy too - it can happen with both brands.

In lens IS should always be noisier than sensor based IS. Lens IS uses small gyros (high speed spinning weights) to stabilize a prism while sensor IS uses magnets to move the sensor...

Ristretto, I just found the thread and your images.
I'm stunned and very jealous at the same time

It reminds me very much of Large Format and my dear Cambo (+ the colours).
I'll never be able to buy that couple of cameras/lens but those are really jewels.

Congratulations!

You are right, the 645D and the 90mm Macro are an incredible combination..

Lovely shots Ristretto.
This thread and your blog post actually convinced me to get a 90mm soon after I got my 645D recently.
