My Pentax Haul from the local camera store

I still cannot believe I got the deal I did. I got a 645N (New in box, but a demo model) and a FA 75mm 2.8 for 645, as well as a brand new in box (not a demo model) MZ-S.

The 645N was body only, and he took the lens off another 645N they had in the case. That's why you see the yellow Nikon bag; the 75 2.8 is in there

I paid $425 for it all. The guy I was working with said this stuff has sat since it was new gear (well it still is new, but it's sat since it was factory fresh) and will probably never be sold so he gave me a great price so they could get rid of it. I am considering selling the 645N equipment, I don't really need it, but I am definitely keeping the MZ-S. I've been wanting one for a long time so I am very excited!

I may be posting a like new 645N kit on the marketplace soon, so be on the lookout.

Thanks, grhazelton! I am beyond pumped.

I love medium format. I'm definitely going to give the 645N a shot, but the MZ-S....oh my gosh the moment I touched it I knew I needed it.

Congrats!

You should try everything out before you sell, because once you sell it, it's gone and you will miss it and kick yourself for selling it.

They could have sold it to KEH for lots more than that! Impressive deal, but now you have to keep and use it all, that's the bargain. Forever. This is no flip deal. I understand, but...

Guy I know got an LX NIB the same way for $198. I begged him, literally begged him to use it, but he eBay'ed it. Took me 5 years to get mine at twice the price and no box.

My advice - keep the 645.

I will use the MZ-S as long as there is film available. I will give the 645N a fighting chance, but I'm not 100% sold on it. Honestly I bought it with the expectation of flipping it, but I at least have to run a roll or two through it before I can sell it in good conscience. Maybe that roll will sell me on it...

You sure you got cameras and not just boxes filled with wood flooring? Proof?

Here's a shot of the MZ-S I got. Unfortunately, I've already taken back the 645N (as I initially feared it wasn't for me, and rather than take the risk of a loss on eBay or the marketplace I just returned it).

The MZ-S is currently fitted with my M-series 50 1.7. I should have an FA 50 1.4 in the mail Monday, a more fitting companion I feel.

I can definitely understand your skepticism, but this is for real. The way the clerk did the receipt was $325 for the 645N with lens and $100 for the MZ-S. So, once I returned the 645N in the end I only paid $100 for a new in box MZ-S. Wish I could find a grip, but they are hard to find without the body.

$100.00 ?!?!?!?!?!!! Wow. That camera is awesome.

I hope pentax put that great mz-s feel into their full frame digital body.

I think you would have made a profit on the 645 selling it on here. I paid more than that for my 645 (non-N). You should have given it a try, medium format is very cool.

I've shot with Mamiya 645 and 67 kits as well as I currently use a 4x5 camera. I'm familiar with medium format.

I have 4x5 when I need the quality and control, and 35mm for every other situation. I don't need another step between. To me, medium format is just a pain to deal with. It's harder for me to get processed and scan than 35mm without really giving a huge benefit like 4x5 does.

I know I probably could have made a profit by flipping the camera, but I didn't want to assume the risk. If the buyer wanted to return it to me I'd be stuck, especially if something unknown was wrong with it.

OK, so this problem is simple enough to fix, which store has this 645N + FA75mm F2.8 for $325? I promise you one of us will buy it and then you will be forgiven for your blasphemy.
Unfortunately it won't be me as I just dropped $285 on B&H to finally finish my darkroom (chemicals and supplies).

I have to agree, which store did you return it to, I may really need to go check it out myself.
