Pentax 645D Service

My faithful P645D is giving me some grief in recent weeks. There seems to be a delay in mirror return, or a shutter issue. The camera still exposes correctly, but after a couple of shots, it takes several seconds for the mirror to return. Looks like a call for service.

My camera is more than two years old. Apparently, Pentax USA has a dismal service record. How do I get it repaired? Can I send it directly to Japan? Apparently, there is only an address and a phone number listed. Do they also use e-mail for communication? How to pay for the repair?

Are you taking long exposures? If so it can be the dark frame.

The US service center is located in Chandler, AZ. You can put in a paid service request on Pentax's web site, and then they'll give you instructions on where to send the camera.

Feedback about the Pentax US service in Arizona is not very encouraging. Do you think it's a good idea to send a $10K camera there?

How many actuations do you have on the shutter? This sounds like what started happening on my 645D at about 60,000. It was followed by sticking open/closed & blowing exposures, and then followed by total failure. I had to send mine to Japan for repair. It took about 10 weeks to come back, working good once again since then. Cost would have been ~$1000 CDN but it was just under the edge of the 2-yr warranty so in the end just cost me the downtime plus some blown images while the shutter was failing...

I am just beyond my 2 year warranty by a month. Did you send it to Japan on your own or through Pentax USA?

I'm in Canada which has no in-country repair for major items like a 645D shutter assembly. So Pentax Canada sent it back to Japan...
