Does anyone know if this flash will work with TTL on the 645?

I've been looking for a flash (on a budget) that I can use on both my K200d and my 645. I would like for it to work on both ttl (on the 645) and p-ttl (on the K200d). I do a lot of street photography and sometimes I don't have the time to set up the flash manually and ttl just makes it easier. I love my sb-28 on my nikon and I would like something similar to use on my pentax cameras. I'm looking for something around $100-$150 dollars (or less if possible).

So right now I'm looking at the Vivitar DF 383. Does anyone know if this will work with the 645 using ttl? Any other flash suggestions in my price range?

I'm not sure you can find a genuine P-TTL flash for <$150 new. I've just purchased a Pentax 540 for the P-TTL used and it was significantly more than $150. Metz also makes some flashes that are P-TTL and get excellent comments around here.

The best resource on P-TTL flashes is PF member Mattdm's site: http://pttl.mattdm.org/

KEH has the AF400T with the sync cord 4P which is intended for hotshoe use at $99.00. This is an excellent, powerful unit and it would work well with your 645 in TTL mode. It is NOT P-TTL compatible, but it does have a sensor for "old fashioned" auto flash operation. It also has tilt-swivel. I've used other non-P=TTL units on my K10 and K5 with good results.

If you go for the AF400T, be advised that it will go through 6 AA cells fairly rapidly; the obvious solution is the Power Pack TR which uses 6 C cells. Sadly this is NOT the same as a similar unit for the current shoe mount Pentax flash, and the one for the AF400T is hard to find.

If you're going for TTL and not P-TTL then the Tumax flashes are a good choice. I have the 300 series model and its been a solid performer for 18 months or so. It uses 4 AAs and they last for a good while in it. Head tilts and pivots, built in diffuser and white card, nice controls, etc. They go for around $100 new.

So the vivitar df 383 is not a p-ttl flash? I'm sort of new to using flashes, up to this point I've just used available light.

It's listed as TTL on the sites I can find specs for it. I'm not an expert on flash, that would be Mattdm and I gave you a link to his site. Its a good starting point.
