645D and FA 645 F3.5 35mm AL (IF)

When I purchased my used 645D it came along with a few lenses including the SMC Pentax FA 645 F/3.5 35mm AL (IF)
Can anybody tell me how to use this lens in Manual Focus Mode?
With the central location of all 11 Autofocus points on the 645D - when shooting a Landscape scene with a very close foreground object -I find myself needing to Manual Focus to be sure I have everything in the frame in focus

I'm pretty certain that you need to either pull back (or push forward) the focus ring - this will dis-engage (or engage) the Autofocus. If you've not come across it before it seems a bit odd but once you've done it it becomes second nature.
