Costing around $600 USD, they're far from cheap, but a bargain compared to the 25mm price tag of $4,999.
You don't really think a wide angle converter lens can compete with a $5000 UWA medium format lens do you?

By all means the 25mm would obviously be better performer if the 35mm FA could be converted to 25mm. I've never seen images from using that kind of a converter, so I don't know how bad of an idea that this may be. But, if you consider using a converter can produce an angle of view not obtainable in any other way, then the disadvantages in image quality may not matter as much.

Remember, I did say it was a bit cheesy.

Personally I'd probably stitch rather than use the converter.... but of course that would mean you'd miss the shots with things moving.

Here's hoping that the 645DII isn't cropped... not like it really matters to me anyway now, but it might in a few years.

If you need the 25 now, you might as well buy it. I would be surprised see the UWA zoom shipping in less than a year -- Pentax has tended to announce but not ship for some time...and they haven't even announced yet.

If the 645D MKII is full format 645* then Pentax will have to re-release the DA25mm f/4 - though I camera prepared I kept my copy of the FA version.

*though I have strong doubts - the 44X33mm sensor format is actually quite popular.

...or retrofit hoods.

Heck I'd be willing to compromise, there's the Kodak sensor, something like 49x37 or similar.

You can probably pick up a used D FA or DA 25mm for under $4000 if you shop around. I purchased mine for that price in the marketplace. You may even find one for around $3500 if you're lucky and patient! Good luck!

Hi all,

So I really need a lens wider than the 28mm eq. of the 35A that I currently have.

I would love to buy the 25mm DA but only really need a 21mm-24mm eq focal length.

I see that there is a new wide zoom approx 24-35mm eq due to be released some time in the next 12 months, which would be perfect.

Also, I use grad filters and big stopper filters a lot, so the 25mm could be a problem there.

Could anybody chime in with some advice or experience with the 25 or their thoughts on what is coming?

Thanks, Scott
my quick fix. I came across a .05x aux lens. I got the proper step down ring for my 45mm lens and ended up with a 22.5 mm lens for cheap.the images are sharp.i also tried it with a .16x aux lens and got the fisheye effect, but the edges were so-so.you could crop a little. I just bought a 35mm a lens, wider fields, I am testing it out now. I still think that stitching 3 together on a landscape is the best bet.
