50 MP CMOS 645DII coming?

The new Hasselblad was mentioned in a comment in one of the other threads here, now Photorumors also speaks of a 50MP CMOS Phase One camera:

PhaseOne IQ250 coming soon with a.... new 50MP CMOS sensor | Photo Rumors

I've long wondered if the 645D mk 2 would get a CMOS Sony sensor. I think this may be an indication that it will. If the size of the sensor is about the same as in the current Hasselblad H5D-50 (36.7 x 49.1), the pixel density will be very close to the pixel density of a 24mp FF sensor, so the sensor could be expected to have similar low light capabilities to the D600. This would make the 645D mk2 incredibly good in low light!

I think Pentax need a mark II 645D. They have done since the D800 came out and became the best value super-high-resolution option.

Indeed they do, and it's almost certain that it comes this year. But so far, the specs have not been known at al. With the Hasselblad and PhaseOne leaks, the probability is getting quite high that the next 645D will have a 50mp CMOS sensor. It's also very likely that the sensor will be larger than the current, but so far the rumors say nothing about the size of the new 50mp sensor.

Why do you believe that?

Don't cite wishful thinking; it counts for naught.

645DII (50mp CMOS; LV Finder the size of a Samsung Galaxy Mega, can mount any lens via adapter)

I admitted that the rumors say nothing about size in the part of the sentence that you didn't quote, but I still think its likely because I don't expect the Hasselblad H5D-50c to have a much smaller sensor than the current H5D-50.

Current Hasselblad H5D-50 has a 36.7 x 49.1 mm CCD sensor (crop factor compared to 645 film bodies: 1.15x)

Phase One IQ250 will have a 6,208 x 8,280 pixels sensor:

6,208 x 8,280 pixels with the same pixel pitch as the sensor in Alpha 7 lead to a 37.1 x 49.4 mm sensor.

In comparison, Pentax 645D has a 32.9 x 43.9 mm sensor (crop factor compared to 645 film bodies: 1.28x).

If the 645D were to remain with a CCD sensor, Truesense now has a 50MP sensor available. The new sensor is physically larger (49.1 mm (H) x 36.8 mm (V)) than the 40000 in the current 645D, while keeping the same pixel size. The matrix would go to 8176 x 6132 from 7304 x 5478.Also, the new sensor....

shares a common pin-out and electrical configuration with the KAF-40000 Image Sensor, allowing a single camera design to support both members of this sensor family.
The 50MP sensor has been announced and available for at least a year now. There is a full data sheet available on the link above.

So how many here would prefer a 645D II for about $10,000 or a full frame 36mp Pentax DSLR for about $2,300 with K mount to use with their full frame PK mount lenses ?

I don't know if we have a choice or any input, since in one of the pronouncements from Ricoh that the new 645D would be coming out first..... Anyway, my wife would not look favorably on either acquisition.

Much, much more than that. Hasselblad H4D-50, which includes this sensor (then under the Kodak brand name) was announced on September 28th, 2009, more than four years ago.

That's part of the problem faced by medium format camera manufacturers: since the acquisition of Dalsa by Teledyne (December 2010) and that of Kodak's Image Sensor Solutions business by the private equity fund Platinum Equity (November 2011), no new sensor targeted to medium format cameras had been announced.

Until yesterday, that is.

Why "the size of a Samsung Galaxy Mega?"

No LV finder at all and wireless feed to your tablet. It will cost a lot less for everybody, since everyone has a tablet ready to use.

I guess not to many. I do think that when Pentax can use this cmos sensor for 645D it should bring it out as fast as possible. To be honest, they could just put it in the current 645D body and upgrade the electronics with all off the K-3 parts and be ready with it.

Just have a mount somewhere to mount your favourite Tablet... Winner!

It's not as easy as one could think. Hasselblad are currently struggling to finalise their H5D-50c event though they "just" have to replace the 50Mpix CCD sensor in their H5D-50 by a 50Mpix CMOS one.
