New 645D soon to be presented

We do not have many details yet, but at the CP+ Expo in Japan February 13 to 16 a new Pentax 645D camera will be presented. This little is what we know:

• Latest, super-high-resolution CMOS image sensor
• High-speed response in a variety of photographic applications
• Tilt-type LCD monitor
• Market launch scheduled for Spring 2014

Obviously the new camera will have higher resolution and by utilizing a CMOS sensor we must expect that live view will be supported. The tilting LCD is also a give away that this new model will have live view.

We can't wait to see the full specs and the camera!

An ultra wide angle zoom is also to be announced. The new camera should become available in the Spring of 2014, whereas no date has been set for the availability of the lens.

Looks like it might do video judging by the Mic and Speaker holes visible on the left side of the body

Thanks, Royce. What we see from the official images is that two additional user mode positions have been added, as well as more advanced autofocus (notice the AF area button).

As already observed by Ayoh we also find a speaker and a microphone.

New models often start out lower than their predecessor, so let's hope it will be below 10K! What's reasonable of course depends on which sensor size and resolution they have put in it!

I like the look of it and the possibility of video is quite interesting.

The more I look at this camera, the more intrigued I am by those holes. It seems the the most reasonable explanation for them, but (if it does video) shouldn't there be some kind of movie button or position on a dial?

Maybe those holes are just to let hot air out. Because this thing looks HOT!

Now, excuse me...I'll be heading to lottery kiosk.
P.s. Next who says that pentax needs flipping screen for their DSLR.s can now have an good option, not mirrorles and not aps-c, but still it is there.

Seems likely based on what I've read elsewhere, it's rumored to be the same 50mp Sony sensor that Phase and Hasselblad are using. It's a 1.3x crop IIRC.

Looks good, except for the LCD. I'll hold out hope for screenless ones showing up on ebay as soon as the warranty starts running out.

Well, there is a "empty slot" on the dial. Maybe there will be a little video symbol and they photoshopped it out?
