645D II fps

As I understand 645D 1,1fps speed was not only because of big file size but also because giant mirror. So do think now when 645D II will have live view feature and theoretically video, will it have faster fps too?

I don't think the 645D is a camera that's built for FPS haha. What they should do is nuke the mirror to make the camera smaller and faster

Was originally planning to ask about this at the CP+ interview, but clearly they've shown us the direction they want to go in so I think the mirror is going to be there to stay. But who knows!

This came up as a side topic in one of the other threads on the new products for CP+. With the new CMOS sensor, there's no reason the mirror could not be locked up for an increased frame rate, whilst retaining live view. However, like with the reflex mirror, the focal plane shutter also has further to travel and has a greater mass than that of a smaller DSLR, so it becomes the next limitation in the quest for speed. Pentax could have increased the FPS in this version by lightening the mirror mechanism, by increasing the capacity of the driving motor or by moving the mirror out of the way in burst mode, but we'll have to wait and see.

I don't mean like 10fps, 3-4fps would more than enough

back in the film days, I don't think there was any MF camera that was faster than 1.5fps. I would be happier with faster RAW write speeds.

oops. amazing what a little search will do - 6008i would do 2.5FPS and there was a 'blad that would do 1.9.

Back in the film days, my FPS on my medium format camera was only limited by how fast I could move my thumb ;-)

Same with my SLRs until I picked up an SF-1 with built in winder. I could do about 1 fps with the thumb. It takes practice, but it can be done.

As per the data sheet for the CCD sensor in the original 645D, data could not be read out from the chip faster than about 1.1 fps. There was no way around that. The new CMOS sensor could be faster.

What would be the real world, practical application for needing 2+ FPS with medium format? I cannot think of a situation where I would want that type of performance and at the same time would choose medium format over 35mm/APS.

Simple example; bride throwing bouquet at wedding.

Why would you choose medium format over 35mm/APS for that shot?

I think my shutter speeds are typically much longer than 1 sec, so this whole feature would be lost on me.

First of all have you seen DOF of medium format? Second have you seen the detail of medium format? Have you ever printed large size? If yes why do you ask?

Well that could be possible in liveview I guess. There is Always the shutter to considder.

Only if the electronics around the sensor are build for these fast readouts I see no reason why 645D ii could handle less data then K-3. So then 4 fps could be possible.

I don't think this would be reality, so maybe 2 fps.

Well they seem to have improved some things with K-3 shutter, damping the movement...maybe they have done same with 645 II so it would be more stable to shoot even with whopping 4 FPS. It would be overkill thou. They also have made some really nice things with K-3 which could be made bigger to allow larger files and faster buffer too... So nobody knows for sure.
