Indeed, my 60-250 was cheaper here than B&H just on price, let alone shipping and duty. I'm not sure that I'll be able to afford a new 645Z but I'm starting to think about what I might sell to build up funds for a 645D.

(edit) just checked the 60-250; currently Aus Pentax store AUD$1349 vs. B&H US$1396. Aus $ is currently at US $0.927 so in US$ that equates to $1250 vs $1396.

Actually the exchange rate is much lower than that — around 0.883c at exchange, and this is what intermediaries such as PayPal and most credit cards will take up. It is very misleading to quote like-for-like rates of currency when they do not reflect the buy/sell rates that effect the price of goods off-shore, additional to other factors e.g. GST, Customs import charges etc.

In the UK, Calumet (which did not offer the 645D over here I believe) has the body for £ 6,799.00, with lens £ 7,699.00 (ca. USD 13,980 and 15,830).
Meanwhile the 645D is offered by SRS for £ £4,249 / 5,099.

which compares well with the 645D release price at £8999 body only and £9999 with 55 DFA. What happened in the UK last time was that the price stayed virtually the same until about a year ago

On Aussie pricing, I received an email today from digital camera warehouse quoting a price of $10,699.00. Disappointing. I had hoped that their price would be less than the competition. Certainly won't be buying one at that price...

Thanks! Is that including GST?

I still feel that price is a little high considering the expectations set in advance. Somewhere in the high $8k's feels like the 'pull the trigger' level to me...

That is the correct price.
It's not a camera many people will be lining up to buy though.

I won't be lining up at that price, I am sorry to say... My 645D is very good and this needs to cost a little less for an upgrade to be worthwhile.

Did you know if the 9,999 price includes GST?

Michaels rarely, if at all, quotes prices that do not include GST!
You can phone them to find out, or visit their website, michaels.com.au /
(03) 9672 2222.

From their May newsletter:

Customer Notice - Pentax 645Z in the May E-Newsletter
Thursday 8th May
Please be advised that the price for the Pentax 645Z quoted in our May E-Newsletter is incorrect.
The correct price is $9,999. michaels apologises for any inconvenience caused

Not much interest has been expressed in the camera except from an advertising agency that I know of.
