Australian 645Z pricing.

There goes my little fantasy about owning one of these cameras. It's $2,000 MORE in OZ than the USA.

Body only = AU$10,499 inc GST

https://www.pentax.com.au/product/645z

AU$11,995 with 55/2.8

https://www.pentax.com.au/product/645z-55mm-f28-lens

Looks like my D800E's will be sticking around for awhile after all.

Not quite:
8500 US Dollar equals
9170.35 Australian Dollar

(body only price)

Scale of economies also affect local pricing and other factors such as 10% GST of course.
But it'll no doubt drop a little once released.

It's a shame, though, because the dollar hasn't affected the price of some other offerings here, in fact several of them are actually cheaper than the US prices (particularly so for those that are offered through the eBay store), and the comparison is probably more influenced by the Yen exchange rate than with the US dollar.

What probably would be more interesting for some of us, is the price of the 645D now, but it isn't being offered here, at least for the moment.

Even the US price of $8500 is without local taxes that apply in some states.
When converting that price into AUD, and adding a GST nominal for the whole country, it ends up higher of course, and about the price as noted by Pentax Australia.
But it will drop down in time, for sure. I'm almost certain the 645Z + 55mm kit will sell for $9900 before the end of year, as Ricoh Imaging would like that camera to be as popular as possible.

You can preorder for $9999.95 at Ted's: Pentax 645z Body | Teds Cameras - Ted's Cameras.
Then you have DDP, who are normally cheaper, selling it for $11999 - Pentax 645Z Medium Format DSLR Camera (Body Only) - Discount Digital Pty Ltd.
I called Digital Camera Warehouse, but they couldn't give me a price since the distributor (CR Kennedy), hasn't given them one.

CR Kennedy has been matching international prices for over a year, at least numerical values, so I had a reasonable expectation that it would follow to this camera.

For those of us that already have a considerable number of FA645 lenses as well as the newer DA 645 lenses buying the camera body only is certainly a way of reducing costs.

well , I certainly don't own any 645 glass , so I'd be starting from scratch , so the 645z with DFA 55 is a great starting point.

I have been very lucky to have picked up one FA and 4 A lenses this past year, with another one coming. I had no idea that this camera was coming when I started. I just lucked into a 645N kit and then have added to it. When I heard about the new camera, I started looking again and now have just picked up another, plus the one about to come. I think less than $1,200 for all of them. I can't believe my luck.

Factoring in that Australian salaries are 20% higher than the US it seems in line. There is a high cost of living there. Everybody gets paid more and everybody pays more for everything. It is not just about exchange rate; it's a vicious circle ya got there. Every employee is paid 20% more than the US and the business has to make 10-20% more to be comparable on equal value... The advantage is your disposable income at the end of the day makes it significantly easier for australians to travel outside of the country much cheaper...

Don't forget that technically the US price should be 5-7% higher for State tax which even though isn't charged on internet orders is technically required to be paid on yearly taxes...

Well, indeed, income disparities here aren't as great as in the US, although there are some people here working assiduously to rectify that. Plus, we don't have an in-built low-wage migrant group – we send them offshore to maintain the genetic purity of this mongrel nation.

Anyway, to return to the point, I doubt that income levels in China or the Philippines will have a great influence on the cost of a 645Z there. Country of origin and local taxation levels are more relevant, which is why I said the exchange rate with the Yen was probably significant. The simple fact of the matter is that I can buy a lot of non-grey market Pentax products here cheaper than I can buy them from the US, even without shipping, but not the 645Z. Not that I'm in the market for one just now…

If Ricoh can sell the 645Z for $8500 in the US, and for $7600 in Japan, it will be rather sooner than later before that camera is available for under $7K. Do not desperate right now, as the aim of the 645Z to create a significant impact in both DSLR and MF markets and its price will be part of it.

The same store mentioned above is selling the 645D (new) for 498,000 yen which is US$4,856. The cost of being an early adapter is almost always pretty significant. But who am I to speak? My last two DSLR cameras were purchased on the day they were released!

Here in Denmark the price will be 85.000 danish kroner for the body. The exchange rate for US dollar is currently at 5,4 kroner to the dollar. That is roughly 15.000 US dollars. Even with the 25% sales tax subtracted (11250 $) it is still crazy expensive.
