645n shutter release.

I am curious, will 645n release shutter without the film insert?
Thanks, cheers.

I think so, but my 645n is loaded so I can't be sure.

It begs the question, why haven't you tried it?

It's called 'dry firing' and it can be done. Check out this thread:https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/48-pentax-645d-medium-format/217332-645n-question.html
Good luck.

It was a little more complicated of an answer than I had time for. @iCrop, has the full answer. For my 645's, I have a plastic back that simulates a film can being installed and with it you can fire away, without it or something like it, you can't.

It's amazing how much confusion there is around this topic. The original 645 was unusual in that it wouldn't let you dry fire unless the film back was removed, and then only in a limited manner. With the plastic insert you could essentially fool the camera into thinking it was loaded so normal dryfiring was possible. But Pentax rectified this oddity in the 645N and 645Nii so that dryfiring without film in the camera is just as easy as any other camera.
