Lenses for 67

Ok, forgive some of my questions. If this were Canon, I wouldn't be asking, but Pentax is new for me.

As I was looking for a Pentax 67 to purchase I would come across cameras that came with a 105 2.4 takumar lens and some with a 105 2.4 SMC lens. Is one considered inferior to the other?

The vast array of lenses is almost overwhelming. LOL

The SMC lens is mostly just a facelift of the takumar lens. The coatings may have been improved, but the optical formula stayed the same. Here are the specs for both:

Thx Adam. Just doing all the research and checking before I purchase. I am mostly a portrait and wedding photographer and want to dive into Pentax a little. I have a Hasselblad I fool around with but I have seen some portraits taken with the 67 that have blown my Hassy images out of the water. LOL.

Found a couple in the $500.00 range. More than I wanted to spend but its cheaper than a Contax right now

Thanks again for all your help.

I would avoid the 105 Super Takumar as it used Thorium glass and was slightly radioactive and caused a slight yellowing of elements. The 105 Takumar and later Pentax had the exact same design (Double Gauss) but no Thorium and are both fine performers.

No, SMC means Super Multi Coated. It is a 7 layer anti reflection coating. Super Takumar was the first lens designation for the 6x7 lenses when the camera was first released. They are uncommon now.

Welcome to the club. I have shot a few weddings with mine and the 105, 150 Super Takumar and 200 Pentax.

You should not worry about shipping from Japan. I just received a 6x7 45mm that arrived quickly and without any hassles (shipped to USA). I've received over a dozen packages shipped from Japan in the last couple of years without issues.

thanks Yurihuta. I don't order from ebay much. I prefer visiting my local shop for hands on stuff....and ordering internationally was a bit scary. But so far the seller has been super courteous and shipped it out quickly. Looking forward to getting it. Only one week!
